What are the Safety Data Sheets (SDS)?
The Safety Data Sheets are documents that indicate the particularities and properties of a substance for its correct use.
The safety sheets contain detailed instructions for using the substance. The main objective is to reduce occupational risks. They also include information on the product: melting point, boiling point, toxicity, health effects, first aid, chemical reactivity, storage, disposal and protection needed, and all safety protocols for using hazardous products.
They also include, in addition to the risks to human health, the environmental ones.
Create and manage the safety data sheets of chemical substances with a reliable software tool, in a simple way and in the languages you need. With eQgest, you will have complete control over the different versions of safety data sheets for each product and an automatic dissemination system that will help you to effectively comply with Article 31 of REACH..
Criteria
The basic criteria to be taken into account for the preparation of these cards can be summarized as follows:
a. Provide data that identify the product and the manufacturer or supplier, as well as a telephone number where emergency inquiries can be made.
b. Inform about the risks and dangers of the product regarding:
– Flammability.
– Stability and reactivity.
– Toxicity.
– Possible injuries by inhalation, ingestión or dermal contact.
– First aid.
– Ecotoxicity.
c. Train the user of the product on:
– Behavior and characteristics.
– Correct use (handling, storage, disposal, etc.).
– Exposure controls.
– Means of protection (individual or collective) to be used in case the control is not completely effective or in cas emergency.
– Actions to be carried out in the event of an accident: suitable extinguishers against fire, control and neutralization of spills, etc.
